Yellow Ribbon Program

午夜福利 participates听in the Yellow Ribbon Program included as part of the Post-9/11 GI Bill^庐听(Chapter 33). The Yellow Ribbon Program is used exclusively to fund (apply towards) the out-of-state portion of tuition for eligible out-of-state student-veterans (or transferees). The program was designed to cover allowable tuition and maintenance fees not already covered by VA benefits.

At this time, there are only three colleges at 午夜福利 that have an agreement with the VA to accept Yellow Ribbon funding.听 The colleges and award details are listed below.

Eligibility Requirements

Must be an out-of-state student.
Must be fully admitted and matriculating in one of the Colleges awarding Yellow Ribbon.
Must have a Post-9/11听GI Bill^庐听(Chapter 33) education benefits Certificate of Eligibility showing Yellow Ribbon Program eligibility.
Must be a听Post-9/11听GI Bill^庐听(Chapter 33) recipient听at 100% entitlement and not on active duty.
Must be enrolled in credit bearing courses at UTHSC.
Must remain eligible for continuous enrollment and not subject to dismissal.

Application Process

Complete the UTHSC Yellow Ribbon Program application.
Submit the Yellow Ribbon Program application with other required entitlement documentation (VA Certificate of Eligibility and DD214) to a School Certifying Official (SCO) in the 搁别驳颈蝉迟谤补谤鈥檚 Office.
Documents should be submitted to registrar@uthsc.edu. Mail and hand-delivered documents are accepted.
Application deadline: June 1^s^t

Applications are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis as determined by the received date and time documented on the complete application packet until all awards have been granted in collaboration with each college. 听After all awards have been granted, student-veterans (or transferees) will be placed on a waiting list for the current academic year based upon the date and time the application was initially received by the 搁别驳颈蝉迟谤补谤鈥檚 Office. Should there be a forfeiture or ineligibility, the next applicant in the waiting list pool will be notified.听 Students on the waiting list must reapply each academic year for the Yellow Ribbon award. The application deadline is June 1^st.

Renewal of Yellow Ribbon Award听

The student-veteran (or transferee) will remain part of the Yellow Ribbon Program as long as the student-veteran (or transferee) remains eligible for continued enrollment at UTHSC or until the student-veteran (or transferee) graduates, leaves school, or is no longer eligible for Post-9/11 GI Bill 庐 (Chapter 33) benefits.听

If the student-veteran (or transferee) becomes ineligible for the Yellow Ribbon, the award will be given to the next eligible student-veteran (or transferee) in the waiting list pool for the academic year. Once deemed ineligible, students must reapply and will be in the pool of awards on a first-come, first-served basis.听 The institution reserves the right to withdraw from the Yellow Ribbon Program agreement with the VA each year.

No. As long as you maintain continuous enrollment your award will continue until you reach the maximum allowed amount. If you do not receive the Yellow Ribbon award for a term because you do not register for courses, are academically dismissed or cannot register by the last day of registration due to other restrictions, your Yellow Ribbon award is forfeited and may go to the next eligible applicant in the waiting list pool.听 You will have to reapply for Yellow Ribbon, if ever ineligible, under these circumstances. The institution reserves the right to withdraw from the Yellow Ribbon Program agreement with听the VA each year.

How is the Yellow Ribbon award distributed throughout the academic year?

When a student is granted the unrestricted control scholarship/grant used for the Yellow Ribbon Program, how does it work with other unrestricted control scholarships/grants at UTHSC?

There is no current appeal process in place. Guidelines for Yellow Ribbon are set forth by an agreement between the VA and the providing institution. If a student disagrees with UTHSC鈥檚 policy or procedures governing Yellow Ribbon, the student may contact the 搁别驳颈蝉迟谤补谤鈥檚 Office for guidance.
